Cumberland/Lincoln: The Valley Breeze Yellow Bag Day

A litter cleanup of Cumberland and Lincoln

Community members can register to clean up areas designated areas or areas of their choice. Volunteers go out on their own the day of the event and clean their area.

For Cumberland: contact Tom Ward at The Valley Breeze – tward@valleybreeze.com or 334-9555.

For Lincoln: contact Candice at the Lincoln Town Hall by calling 333-8418 to pick up bags for an area of your choice or to be assigned an area. The day of the event, bags can also be picked up at the Lincoln Public Works Garage at 96 Old River Road from 8am-10am.

Shred-It Event
Free shredding of personal documents for Blackstone Valley residents
Smithfield Public Works Garage, 3 Spragueville Road

This event is sponsored by the Town of Smithfield.

The Town of Smithfield is sponsoring a Shred-it event to encourage proper disposal of paper and to highlight the importance of recycling in the effort to preserve trees. Residents of the Blackstone Valley are invited to bring up to 3 bankers boxes of personal documents to be shred for free on site at the Smithfield Department of Public Works Garage (3 Spragueville Road) on Saturday, April 26 from 8am until 1 pm. Residents will be encouraged to bring materials to be shred in cardboard boxes that can also be recycled at the event.

Smithfield Tree Day (Environmental Education Fair)
Purchase trees, demonstrations, and environmental awareness information.

Meeting Place: Deerfield Park (entrance at the end of Deerfield Drive), Smithfield

Town residents can pick up free evergreen seedlings and purchase flowering bushes at a discount price. The Environmental Education Fair will have local groups displaying information on conservation and green issues.

Woonsocket: City of Woonsocket Cleanup

This event is organized by NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley and is a private event.

To volunteer for any of these events, call the contact person listed or contact Emily Soergel.

Blackstone Valley 2007 Great American Cleanup Results

Over 1,000 volunteers, spent 3,300 hours, collecting 120 tons of trash, along 85 miles of roads, river and shoreline, and hiking and biking trails.

Five beautification projects were completed, four community and commercial buildings were improved, 350 acres of public land, wetlands, and parks were cleaned and improved.

Beautification was apparent with 485 flowers and 700 new trees being planted.

Great job to everyone that participated we look forward to making the 2008 Great American Cleanup even more successful!
