One of 6 stateside tourism agencies charged with promoting regional tourism which include the 9 communities of Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley. With an emphasis on promoting sustainable tourism principles that emphasize a clean, healthy environment, the Council has developed a number of programs with several partners to clean up and beautify the Blackstone Valley region, and provide environmental education to residents, works, and visitors. Environmental initiatives include environmental tours aboard the state’s only riverboat, the Explorer, RiverClassroom which provides educational programs for students aboard the Explorer, community and river cleanup projects including carrying out of the region’s Great American Cleanup program through management of it’s Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful subsidiary, efforts to complete construction of the Blackstone Valley Bikeway, and neighborhood beautification projects throughout the region.
